The Power of Words: Communicating with Purpose
Offered by Dr. Lisa Lewis out of our sister campus in New Mexico.
Words have the power to heal, encourage, persuade, teach, and transform lives. This course explores biblical principles of communication while helping students become more effective speakers and writers in ministry and everyday life. The time will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm Mountain Time. (5:00–7:00 pm, Pacific Time)
This course will meet every Tuesday starting September 22, 2026 and going until November 17,2026.

- Learn more about growing in your progressive sanctification each day to become like Jesus
- Learn more about the role of the Holy Spirit in your life and ministry
- Learn more about the Fruit of the Spirit and how God can bring a harvest through you
- Learn more about the Baptism of the Spirit and how that changes your life and those you minister to
- Learn more about your spiritual gifts and how to use them for God’s glory (spiritual gifts test will be given)
- Learn more about the 5-fold ministry in Ephesians 4 and how you can participate in those gifts (spiritual assessment will be given)
- Learn more about how to counsel others in the wisdom and power of the Counselor and Spirit of Truth

Character Development is a series of courses on the most important quality of a Christian – character. It’s what Jesus commended in the wise man who builds his house upon the rock (Matthew 7:24), and the very opposite of the hypocrisy Jesus condemned in the religious leaders of His day. God wants us to walk in victory and become like His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:28-29). Learning all about the Lord and the Bible is great. Learning to minister in power is wonderful. But if we do not develop His character we will eventually get shot down by the world, the flesh, or the devil. God has definite steps to achieve victory in each area of our lives and the 12 Character Development courses are where you’ll learn them. This quarter will draw Character lessons from various portions of Jesus’ teachings in the Gospels, including the Parables.

Peter has all of the mood swings of a teenager and the temperment of hockey coach as he takes two steps forward and one step back while following the Lord. His transformation in the book of Acts is miraculous and his theology in his two books is nothing short of genius! His writings have tested and inspired the most gifted of biblical scholars for thousands of years. They are challenging yet filled with grace; practical, yet seemingly unreachable; personal and passionate to stir even the most subdued follower. This fisherman never lost his humility nor his memory of his own frail ways. He indeed is worth studying in a slow and deliberate manner to catch a glimpse of the height and breadth of God’s amazing love of this most remarkable disciple.

A “prologue” (Gk. prologos, from pro, “before” and logos, “word”) is the opening portion of a book that serves to teach or prepare the reader for the rest of the book. It often setting and provides the background details. A prologue is a defense of and a positive affirmation (reason for) the historic Christian faith. In the New Testament, the prologue of John, Colossians, and Hebrews are high Christological prologues emphasizing and establishing the identity and dual nature of God the Son, Jesus Christ. The prologue of Romans and Ephesians explicate and express high theological doctrines regarding our salvation and sanctification. A study of these prologues will edify and encourage us as we live out the Christian life.

Evangelism – Field Experience (2 units)
The word “evangelism” means taking the good news about salvation through Jesus Christ to other people. Jesus came to preach the gospel to the poor, and He is still doing that today through us, because we are His body (1 Corinthians 12:27). How do we learn to evangelize? Mainly by doing it. This is a “field experience” course, which involves witnessing for at least one and a half hours a week, turning in weekly lists of the people witnessed to, reading a missionary book (supplied) and writing five pages of notes on it.

El Desarrollo del Carácter es un Curso práctico donde la fe y creencias cristianas son aplicadas en las situaciones reales de la vida diaria. Dios desea que Su Pueblo realmente venga a ser semejante a Cristo, no solo creer ciertas doctrinas o acumular una cabeza llena de información. Sin embargo, vivir lo que creemos puede ser difícil en el día de hoy. En este trimestre de Desarrollo del Carácter examinaremos cuestiones del carácter cristiano al nivel de la sociedad y la cultura:
«Al ver a las multitudes, Jesús sintió compasión de ellas, porque estaban angustiadas y abatidas, como ovejas que no tienen pastor» (Mateo 9:36). El mundo actual: un mar interminable de problemas. Violencia en escuelas, barrios y naciones; personas, empresas y gobiernos en bancarrota; fragmentación de vidas, comunidades, naciones y continentes; drogas, promiscuidad sexual, enfermedades, políticos corruptos, contaminación. Usted conoce bien todo esto. Dios nunca ha sido tomado por sorpresa. Así como tuvo una solución cuando Adán y Eva pecaron, también tiene soluciones para los problemas de hoy. La Palabra de Dios tiene mucho que decir sobre cómo funcionan las sociedades y sobre la capacidad de Dios para transformarlas.
A Jesús le importan profundamente los problemas de la sociedad actual y desea que su pueblo sea sal y luz, llevando el poder transformador del reino de Dios al mundo urbano del siglo XXI. Pero ¿cómo? Creemos firmemente que el plan de Jesús comenzó con el establecimiento de iglesias entre los pobres y los marginados de la sociedad, y que, desde esa base, su pueblo trajo cambios a la sociedad. Acompáñenos en una jornada apasionante para obtener nuevas perspectivas sobre el funcionamiento del sistema mundial y descubrir cómo puede usted contribuir a que venga el reino de Dios y se haga su voluntad en la tierra como en el cielo.

En este curso, estudiaremos todo el libro de 2 Corintios capítulo por capítulo descubriendo la profundas enseñanzas e instrucciones del apóstol Pablo a la iglesia de Corinto. Muchas facetas y cuestiones de la vida cristiana son exploradas. Trabajaremos para entender la cultura, contexto e historia de la iglesia de Corinto, así como veremos si sus problemas y situaciones tienen algún paralelo con los nuestros en el día de hoy, y entonces haremos aplicaciones prácticas a nuestros problemas y situaciones.
Es muy importante entender lo que Pablo está diciendo, y cómo lo podemos entender de forma que podamos enseñar este texto en su contexto propio y ministrar en el poder del Espíritu Santo de acuerdo a la voluntad de Dios. Será excitante darle una mirada fresca y práctica a esta carta tan importante y como esta puede cambiar nuestras vidas y la de aquellos a los cuales les enseñemos y ministremos.

La transición del reinado de David al de Salomón es un estudio del movimiento de la gracia a la gloria—del favor de Dios otorgado sobre nosotros a la majestad de Dios viviendo en nuestro medio. Así que Salomón construye la casa de Dios nosotros también llegamos a una seguridad personal que el Rey de Gloria realmente quiere vivir en nuestros corazones. Ahí es donde él se encuentra en su casa. Ahí es donde él quiere manifestar su gloria. Y llegamos a comprender que realmente podemos construir algo para Dios.
El tema de 1ra. Reyes está basado en el hecho que el bienestar de Israel y Judá depende de la fidelidad del pueblo y su rey al pacto de Dios. 1ra. Reyes comienza a trazar la monarquía desde el punto de su prosperidad mayor bajo Salomón y nos muestra que obedecer la palabra de Dios produce bendición, pero la apostasía es recompenzada con el juicio. Este libro directamente confronta nuestra carne y nos pregunta ¿a cuál rey realmente seguiremos—a Dios o a nosotros mismos? Cuando le permitimos a Dios que él gobierne y reine en nuestros corazones y nos bajamos del trono que realmente es de él, entonces tomará residencia y nos transformará de adentro para afuera. Prepárese para moverse a un lado y dejar a Dios ser Dios.

Descripción: En este curso práctico aprenderemos a redactar ideas completas, coherentes y bien organizadas, desarrollando la habilidad de comunicar pensamientos con claridad y precisión. Trabajaremos en la elaboración de distintos tipos de párrafos a partir de organizadores gráficos y sobre una variedad de temas, fortaleciendo así la estructura y fluidez de la escritura.
También dedicaremos tiempo a dominar los signos de puntuación esenciales, como el uso correcto de la coma (,) y del punto y coma (;), así como a emplear conectores de discurso que unen y dan cohesión a nuestras ideas. Prestaremos especial atención a la ortografía de palabras de escritura dudosa (hay/ay/ahí; ah/a/ha; entre otras), herramientas fundamentales para evitar errores comunes.
Finalmente, aprenderemos a elaborar resúmenes efectivos, identificando las ideas principales y expresándolas con precisión y brevedad. Este curso te brindará las bases necesarias para escribir con claridad, confianza y excelencia en cualquier contexto académico o ministerial.

La palabra “evangelismo” significa llevar las Buenas Nuevas de salvación a través de Jesucristo a otras personas. Jesús vino para predicar el evangelio a los pobres, y Él continua haciéndolo hasta el día de hoy a través de nuestras bocas, ya que nosotros somos Su Cuerpo (1 Cor. 12:27). Cómo podremos aprender a evangelizar? Primeramente, haciéndolo! Esta clase es un “campo para experimentar.” Cada estudiante establece un programa de evangelismo semanal, regularmente realizado en su propia iglesia, entonces viene al director de la Universidad para trabajar bajo un plan supervisado.
